INTRODUCTION
Language has been one of the
best tools of mankind that gave it enormous advantages over other living beings.
As mankind has gone through developmental process through out its history, its
languages have followed similar roadmap although many have disappeared or
dwindled over time because of various reasons. Despite the fact that Afaan Oromo
(Oromo language) is the most widely spoken language in the Horn of Africa region
and the third most widely spoken language in Africa, until recently it was not
normally used as a written language. At this point in its development course,
however, it is marking a major milestone by making the transition from a spoken
language to a written and spoken language. For any watchful eyes, the current
Oromo generation, and in fact any interested party, must be fortunate enough to
witness this remarkable milestone in Oromo language development. Even more
fortunate is the current generation that it could gage and encourage the
development of Afaan Oromo. Convinced by the importance of this historical
milieu, interested Oromians have formed the Oromo National Academy (O.N.A).
Purpose
The
starting point to promote the Oromo language is to be able to encourage the
Oromo people, especially Oromo professionals, educators and students to write
short essays on Oromo classic and contemporary literatures, stories, novels, and
plays to engage intellectual and emotional resources that Oromo professionals
frequently fail to draw upon in the context of their daily work and to increase
Oromians ability to reflect together on their past to enable them to re-build
the vital links among the pieces of Oromo shattered culture by the expansion of
the Amharaization.
Mission
The
mission of O.N.A is to promote the progress of Oromo language and culture i.e.
